Four Ways to Care for Yourself as a Stay at Home Mom
If you’re reading this post, you probably feel the way that many other SAHMs do – tired, overwhelmed, worn out… did I say tired?
You’re not alone! Caring for our little ones is no easy task. Being home with them almost 100% of the time makes it that much more exhausting. I feel you girl.
Amidst running the household, it’s vital to find time to care for ourselves. Today, I’d like to share a few of the ways that I care for myself as a stay-at-home-mom. Read on!
- Bath/facial routine
We give our kid’s baths almost daily. And as we sit there on the cold tile floor, straining our backs to scrub every inch of them, we dream of the chance to jump in the tub ourselves. Well, I’m telling you – MAKE TIME. One of my favorite ways to care for myself lately is to put on a face mask, light a candle, grab a book, and soak in the tub for as long as my little heart desires. Whether it’s once a week or every night, this can be a really great way to get some much needed R&R.
2. Get out of the house
It’s in the title – SAHMs are home a lot! It goes without saying, but getting out of the house is really important for everyone’s mental health. Whether it’s with the littles or without the, whether it’s going to the grocery store or going to the gym, the important thing is to just get out. You’ll be able to come home with a fresh outlook, a happy mood, and the drive to continue on with mom duties.
3. Give yourself down-time
When my toddler takes her nap, one of the ways that I decompress is by just sitting on the couch and watching Netflix or scrolling through Instagram. I’ll make a cup of coffee (probably at least my third one that day), grab a cozy blanket, and just enjoy the quiet time. It can be hard not to get things done during nap time, but I promise, if you don’t give yourself down-time, too, you’ll burn out so much faster.
4. Eat well
Personally, if I haven’t been fueling myself with good food throughout the day, I feel tired and unmotivated. Staying hydrated and eating well is so important to keep you going. Even if it means enjoying the same mac and cheese or apples and peanut butter that your kiddos do, it’s fuel all the same! Also, keep a water bottle close-by to help remind you to get that much needed H2O. It’ll keep you going! By the way, don’t forget to sneak those occasional pieces of chocolate as an extra little treat, too.
As, SAHMs, it’s easy to put ourselves on the back burner. It’s actually necessary most of the time! But finding the little ways to care for yourself is so important.
Whether it’s a quick face mask before bed, a workout session at the gym, or a bowl of ice cream at the end of the day, everything adds up.
When you remember to sprinkle self-care into your day, you’re going to be much more capable to tend to your kid’s needs.
So, keep going mamas! Eat the chocolate, watch the Grey’s Anatomy, take the baths. I promise, you’ll be so glad you did.

Have a beautiful day,
